What's new to the 2023 Ford Explorer

The 2023 Ford Explorer gets a host of changes, mostly being limited to a rearrangement of standard and optional features. The Base trim level now comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, cloth-trimmed seats, a power liftgate, a power adjustable driver's seat, a 50/50 split folding second-row bench seat, and a 6-speaker audio system. The Base trim also comes outfitted with a suite of driver assistance features.

Performance

The Ford Explorer offers up a total of three engines, with the base engine being a bold 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. There's also a hybrid 3.3-liter V6 engine that makes 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful engine available with the Ford Explorer is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard while all-wheel drive is an optional upgrade. The Timberline trim of the Ford Explorer offers Hanover drivers a host of additional performance features, like all-wheel drive limited slip rear differential, an off-road suspension with increased ground clearance, and underbody skidplates.

Technology

Tech offerings vary from trim to trim, with even the base trim offering Plymouth, MA drivers a robust set of features. The Base trim comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, satellite radio, and a 6-speaker audio system. The XLT trim doesn't make any standard tech additions, but it does allow for some to be added via the XLT Technology package. The XLT Technology package adds a 12-speaker sound system, a surround-view camera system, and wireless smartphone connectivity. The ST-Line trim comes with the same tech offerings as the XLT Technology package. Moving to the ST trim offers drivers a 12/3-inch digital instrument panel while there's an optional Technology package with the higher trims, which adds a 10.1-inch touchscreen display and a 14-speaker audio system.

Interior Features

Interior features are distinctly modern, with options ranging from an impressive set of standard and optional features. The entry-level Base trim comes equipped with cloth seats, a power adjustable driver's seat, a power liftgate, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Stepping to the XLT trim allows Weymouth drivers keyless entry, push-button start, heated front seats, and an upgraded interior trim. The ST-Line trim comes with faux leather upholstery/suede upholstery, ambient interior lighting, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Timberline steps things up by adding heated second row seats. The Limited trim comes with leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, and heated/ventilated front seats. The King Ranch offers Marshfield drivers an impressive set of features that includes wood interior trim, leather-wrapped interior panels, and a hands-free liftgate. The top-level Platinum trim comes with exclusive wood interior trim, and diamond pattern leather upholstery.
